Food Assistance Program
How it works
Individuals and families suffering with food insecurity must be qualified and registered with the West Island Mission before they can start receiving food assistance. Once registered, we will have had a chance to fully understand your needs and will proceed to schedule your first visit. Depending on your needs, visits (or appointments) will be once or twice a month. Each time you visit we ask for you to pay a $5 fee. Now you’re ready to shop! Every time you visit WIM make sure to bring your reusable shopping bags, as we do not supply. While you shop, a volunteer will accompany you through the warehouse and can answer any questions you have regarding the non-perishables and produce on our shelves.
When can I shop?
Shopping takes place Wednesdays from 2:30 PM – 6:30 PM and Fridays from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM [you MUST have an appointment to shop with us]
Note that safety rules apply while shopping at the warehouse throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Clients must sanitize their hands and wear face masks.
- Up to 6 clients can shop at the same time.
- We ask for you to arrive no more than 5 minutes before your appointment.
